Digitised newspapers and magazines from 2022–2024 are now included in the Tutkain service

From 1 January 2026, digitised newspapers and magazines from 2022–2024 are included in the Tutkain service. Previously the service comprised newspapers and magazines published in 2021 and before. Thanks to the Tutkain project, the remote use of these digitized newspapers is possible for University of Oulu and Oamk staff and students for research purposes with Haka login.

The Tutkain agreement between the National Library and Kopiosto, the Finnish copyright management organisation, enables the research use of Finnish digitised newspapers and magazines subject to copyright, regardless of time and place. The material is available in the digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi service with user credentials from universities and higher education institutions that have signed the agreement – University of Oulu and Oamk included. The current agreement is valid until the end of 2027.

In addition to the new volumes added in early 2026, material in the Tutkain service increases through retrospective digitisation efforts. The National Library of Finland has digitised all new newspapers published from 2017 onwards and, at the moment, digitised older material covering comprehensively all newspapers published in 1954 or earlier. In addition, all Swedish-language newspapers and some Finnish-language newspapers have been digitised in full in their entire publication history. As of the beginning of 2026, over 16 million pages of material are in the sphere of the Tutkain agreement.
