Eight subjects of the University of Oulu among the world's top in Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject

Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject ranks the world's leading universities by academic subject. This year, eight subjects at the University of Oulu earned a place among the best in the world. Life Sciences entered the list as a new addition.

The highest-ranking discipline was Computer Science. Engineering came in second, while Education Studies and Life Sciences shared third place. In addition, Physical Sciences improved its ranking.

Engineering: 176–200 (176–200)
Education Studies: 201–250 (201–250)
Life Sciences: 201–250 (not ranked 2025)
Business and Economics: 251–300 (201–250)
Physical Sciences: 251–300 (301–400)
Arts and Humanities: 301–400 (301–400)
Medical and Health: 301–400 (301–400)

The rankings are based on 18 indicators evaluating teaching, research, and research quality within each subject. Additionally, external funding and international outlook are considered with a smaller weight. The weighting of individual metrics varies by subject, but teaching and research reputation, as well as citations, carry the greatest significance across all fields.
