Environmental impact of flexible electronics can be reduced by almost 90% – study on sustainable electronics led by VTT proves major potential for climate impact

The current manufacturing of electronics is not meeting the increasing sustainability demands. Changing manufacturing methods can have drastic influence on waste reduction, thus improving resource efficiency and sustainability.

Espoo, Finland (February 28th, 2023) VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland released the results of a research project investigating the environmental impact of electronics manufacturing and how to improve it by changing the manufacturing method. One of the project most significant findings showed a reduction for environmental impact of approximately 86% for additive manufacturing methods such as printing to create flexible electronics and components.
