Oulu Business School represented in the University’s Sustainability and Responsibility Working Group
The University of Oulu’s Sustainability and Responsibility Working Group was established to promote sustainable development and responsibility in research, education, and societal engagement, as well as in the related guidance, advisory, and monitoring activities. Alexandra Middleton, Postdoctoral Researcher in the Unit of Economics, Accounting and Finance at OBS, was appointed a member of the working group and subsequently elected its chair for the 2026-2027 term – a role carrying broader responsibility for the group's collective work.
Additionally, Middleton has also been appointed as a chair of the Arctic Six for the 2026-2028 term. The Arctic Six alliance promotes sustainability and collaboration in the Arctic region through research, innovation, educational development, and knowledge sharing. The alliance brings together Luleå University of Technology and Umeå University in Sweden, UiT the Arctic University of Norway and Nord University in Norway, and the University of Lapland and the University of Oulu in Finland.
“My hope is to have sustainable solutions from the Arctic, for the Arctic – research and societal engagement that makes a difference to the people who live here, and builds the University of Oulu's standing as a hub for sustainability in the North”, says Alexandra.
Alexandra's focuses on responsible investments in the Arctic, Arctic trade, demographics, and wellbeing in the Arctic, as well as Arctic smart specialisation.
