Propose the best migration-themed doctoral thesis

The Migration Institute of Finland grants a PhD thesis on migration or ethnic relations from the academic year 2024-2025 and 2025-2026. We are now inviting staff to propose suitable migration-themed doctoral theses from the University of Oulu.

The theme of the thesis can be on topics such as migration to or from Finland, Finns abroad, country internal migration and regional development, racism and discrimination, refugee studies, diaspora, integration, multiculturalism, migration governance or borders and border control.

The sum of the award in 2026 is 4 000€. The Migration Institute of Finland grants the award every second year.

The institute is asking all Finnish universities to nominate their best PhD thesis from the last two academic years as their candidate. The nominations will be evaluated by a jury that contains member from the Migration Institute. The board of the migration institute decides on the award recipient on the basis of the jury’s nomination. The name of the recipient and justifications for the selection will be published in autumn 2026.
