Results of the UniOGS Doctoral Progress Support 2026 (short-term grants)
University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS) has awarded short-term working grants to 40 doctoral researchers. The personal grants, covering a period of one to three months, are intended to support full-time doctoral research and thesis work in 2026. The purpose of the funding is to support the doctoral researcher’s progress towards completing their doctoral degree.
Information about the grants was distributed via the doctoral researchers’ mailing list and published on the UniOGS webpage. A total of 164 applications were received during the application period from 21 September to 5 October 2026. The funding was allocated to the different doctoral programmes in proportion to the total number of funding months applied for by the applicants in each doctoral programme.
Eligible applications were evaluated by the chair of each Doctoral Education Committee and UniOGS coordinators. The applications were assessed based on the expected contribution of the funding to the progress of the applicant’s doctoral research. The assessment also considered the doctoral researcher’s motivation, the statement provided by the principal supervisor, the demonstrated need for short-term funding, and the feasibility of the proposed work plan.
Based on the evaluations, working grants were awarded to the highest-ranked applicants who met all the criteria specified in the call. All selected candidates had a doctoral degree study right at the University of Oulu and were registered as an attending doctoral researcher for their doctoral study right. In addition, the UniOGS guidelines incorporate a gender perspective by ensuring that, in cases where the top candidates are equally qualified, preference is given to a candidate from the underrepresented gender in the field.
We congratulate the selected candidates and thank all applicants for their interest in these positions.
