Several researchers from the Process Metallurgy Research Unit visited the Euroslag 2026 conference
The 13th Euroslag conference collected metal producers, slag processors, equipment providers, authorities, researchers as well as end-users of slag to Luleå, Sweden to discuss on how the transition to decrease carbon dioxide emissions effects the production, treatment and valorisation of different slags. A total of over 240 participants from 26 different countries (including also non-European countries such as South Korea, Japan and Australia) attended the conference organized jointly by the Swedish Iron and Steel Producers' Association Jernkontoret, the metals research institute Swerim and the Luleå University of Technology.
Process Metallurgy Research unit was represented by five participants who had prepared two presentations as well as one poster. Ville-Valtteri Visuri gave a presentation about the "Considerations for Efficient Slag Practices in HPSR Steelmaking", whereas Rita Kallio's presentation had a "Focus on titanium, vanadium, phosphorus and chromium when improving cementitious properties of EAF slags". Anniina Merenluoto had prepared a poster about "FESEM-EBSD as a tool for slag characterization".
The conference contained two days of presentations in two parallel sessions as well as visits to Swerim and SSAB in Luleå and Boliden in Rönnskär.
