In Suomi.fi e-Identification, you accept or reject digital messages
For us, such a service is a username and password service in which
- you change your password when you cannot remember the previous password (https://account.oulu.fi/passwd) and
- if necessary, check your account information (https://account.oulu.fi/accountinfo).
The introduction of digital communications requires the notification and confirmation of the e-mail address within an hour. You will receive an email notification when you have received new mail in Suomi.fi Messages. You can read the messages on Suomi.fi or on the mobile application.
If you wish, you can skip the implementation of Suomi.fi Messages and continue e-Identification as normal. Suomi.fi Messages can also be introduced later.
What does the transition to digital communication with authorities mean?
This is the Digital First project of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, the aim of which is to make the switch in Finland to receiving decisions and other communications sent by authorities primarily digitally. The aim of the change is to encourage people to switch to receiving government mail electronically instead of paper mail.
As of 12 May 2025, you can self-deploy your own official mail digitally. In practice, it is proposed that you implement Suomi.fi Messages when you are strongly identifying yourself with an authority's e-service.
From the beginning of 2026, official mail will primarily be delivered digitally to everyone who uses electronic services. Adult persons who identify themselves to the authorities' electronic services will receive Suomi.fi Messages without separate consent in connection with the Suomi.fi e-Identification, unless the person already has the service in use.
Those who cannot use digital services will continue to receive official mail on paper, unless they choose otherwise.
A person can also cancel the reception of electronic messages with just a notification, after which mail will be sent by paper mail once again. If a person who has selected paper mail continues to use the e-services, an electronic mailbox will be created again for them after the deadline.
