The University of the Arctic (UArctic) has announced the approval and endorsement of several Thematic Networks during its 2025 Assembly held in Inari, Sápmi, Finland. These networks aim to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange across the Arctic region.

Three new provisional Thematic Networks were approved:

  • Thematic Network on Environmental Humanities, hosted by UiT – The Arctic University of Norway
  • Thematic Network on Terrestrial Biodiversity Monitoring, hosted by the University of Oulu, Finland
  • Thematic Youth Network, hosted by Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada

These networks are expected to contribute to research and education in their respective fields and foster interdisciplinary cooperation.

In addition, two existing networks received full endorsement, recognizing their progress and impact over the past year:

  • Thematic Network on Nordic Snow Network (NordSnowNet), hosted by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Finland
  • Thematic Network on Sustainable Strategies for Waste Removal and Restoration of Arctic Mine Waste Areas (RAMWA), hosted by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Norway

These endorsements mark an important milestone and affirm the networks’ sustained contributions to Arctic education and research.

UArctic’s Thematic Networks serve as a platform for connecting researchers, educators, and communities across the Circumpolar North, promoting innovation and interdisciplinary dialogue.
