University Board approved investment in new teacher training school and cooperation agreement with wellbeing services county

At its meeting on 26 May, the University of Oulu Board of Directors approved the investment in the new teacher training school and the cooperation agreement with Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Wellbeing Services County, Pohde, to develop the Kontinkangas area.

The Board approved EUR 23.43 million as the investment cost for building the new teacher training school and authorised the Rector to sign the lease agreement for the property. The new teacher training school will be located in the north-west corner of the Linnanmaa main campus site. The project will be developed and owned by Suomen Yliopistokiinteistöt Oy.

The Board approved the cooperation agreement with Pohde on the development of the Kontinkangas area. The agreement is linked to the university’s campus project, in which the planned location of the new campus is in Kontinkangas on the wellbeing services county’s site. The purpose of the agreement is to coordinate the university’s campus project, Pohde’s property projects under the OYS 2030 renewal programme, and other development measures in the area.

Separate agreements on the parties’ responsibilities and arrangements between the projects will be added to the cooperation agreement on a case-by-case basis. Each separate agreement will be approved in accordance with the parties’ own decision-making procedures.

In addition, the Board

  • received a status update on the further development of the Kontinkangas campus
  • submitted a favourable statement to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on the appointment of a University of Oulu employee as Honorary Consul
