The University Board approved the updated Education Regulations

The updates include changes to both the structure and content of the regulations, taking into account amendments to the Universities Act as well as the most frequently asked questions from faculties regarding the previous version. The Finnish-language University Regulations are the official version, but a translation will be provided soon.

“The Education Regulations were updated in their entirety. The goal was to make them clear and unambiguous. I believe we achieved that exceptionally well, thanks to the expertise of those working in education services,” Illikainen adds.

Up-to-date and relevant Education Regulations support the implementation of the University of Oulu’s strategic goals, ensuring smooth learning paths and an excellent learning experience for all learners.

Regulations revised through community involvement

The revision process began in early 2025. The previous version of the regulations was updated in 2022. The Education Regulations guide the University of Oulu’s education provision and, after legislation, are the most important university-level norm for educational guidance.

In preparing the new regulations, existing regulations from other universities were reviewed, and three rounds of community feedback were organised for university staff and students. The updated regulations are based on the current Universities Act, careful consideration of regulations from other universities, and extensive input from the university community.

In addition, an interpretative guide will be prepared to accompany the new regulations to ensure consistent implementation across the university.
