University of Oulu ranks 284th in Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The University of Oulu was ranked 284th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which compare universities around the world. Among Finnish universities, the University of Oulu ranked third after the University of Helsinki and Aalto University.

Last year, the University of Oulu was ranked in the 251–300 band. At the time, universities from 201st place onwards were not given an exact rank but were grouped into ranking bands. This year, exact ranks were given to the top 300 universities.

The University of Oulu improved its scores from last year in Research Environment, Research Quality and International Outlook. The university performed best in Research Quality.

Around 30 per cent of the overall score is based on Teaching, around 60 per cent on research, and just over 10 per cent on International Outlook and Industry.

Nearly 2,300 universities from around the world were included in the ranking. The highest-ranked universities were the UK’s University of Oxford and the US-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Princeton University and Stanford University.
