University of Oulu’s 13th Conferment Ceremony to be held in May 2028

The Doctoral Conferment Ceremony is the most prestigious academic celebration of the University of Oulu, at which doctoral graduates and honorary doctors are conferred. The title of Honorary Doctor is the highest honour bestowed by the University. The festivities include several traditional events, such as the Sword-Whetting Dinner, the Conferment Ceremony, the Procession, an Ecumenical Conferment Service, the Conferment Banquet and Ball, and a Conferment Cruise.

The 2028 Conferment Ceremony is primarily intended for individuals who complete their doctoral degree between 2024 and 2027, as well as for honorary doctors selected by the faculties. Should places remain available, doctors who graduated prior to 2024 may also be invited to participate.

Registration for doctors who graduate during 2024-2027 will open in autumn 2027. Further information on participation options, including arrangements for accompanying guests, will be published before registration opens.

The number of participants is limited. The final participant capacity will be confirmed during 2027 before registration begins.

Updates on the preparations, programme and schedules, registration procedures and participation fees, academic traditions, dress code, and practical arrangements will be published on the Conferment Ceremony website.
