Biodiverse Anthropocenes values global mobility! We aim to facilitate scientific mobility to build networks, foster collaborations, and inspire innovative insights in scientific research on biodiversity and society. This programme welcomes PhD scholars and higher-level researchers. APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR 2026.
Who can apply?
a) Incoming scholars
- Researchers interested in visiting the University of Oulu.
- Applicants must have a host at the University of Oulu.
b) Outgoing ANTS members
- Members wishing to visit another academic institution in Finland or abroad.
- Visits can focus on collaboration in research, writing, or funding application activities.
All proposed visits must align with the goals of Biodiverse Anthropocenes.
Duration and Funding
- Length of visit: 2 weeks – 3 months.
- Grant amount: up to €2000/month.
- Incoming visits: flat grant (€2000/month) intended to cover accommodation, and travel to/from Oulu.
- Outgoing visits: reimbursed based on travel and accommodation costs (max €2000/month).
- Visits should end on October 31st, 2026
Please note: The grant does not cover conference or workshop fees, laboratory or material costs, or fieldwork costs. It is intended for directed institutional visits that result in high-quality scientific outputs.
Eligible fields
We welcome applications across a wide range of disciplines in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, including but not limited to:
- Anthropology, Archaeology, Biology, Ecology, Education
- Environmental Humanities, Geography, History, Medicine, Philosophy
- Projects may also include citizen science or creative components.
Application requirements
Applications must include:
- Cover letter (max 1 page)
- Mobility plan with schedule of activities and expected outputs (max 2 pages)
- CV (max 4 pages)
- Budget allocation
- For incoming applicants: a letter from the Oulu host confirming commitment to support the visit
