World Premiere of Ortotopologian loputtomat alkeet at the University of Oulu on 12 September
Ortotopologian loputtomat alkeet tells the story of a unique Oulu phenomenon that once captured national attention. Aapo Heikkilä (1931-1993) served as a docent of orthotopology at the University of Oulu for nearly 30 years and was the world’s only representative of this unconventional “field of science.” During the 1980s, Heikkilä became something of a scientific celebrity and was widely regarded as the University of Oulu’s best-known academic figure.
It is especially fitting that the film’s world premiere will take place in Heikkilä’s home venue, the University’s L1 Lecture Hall. Before the screening, the film will be introduced by director Markku Pölönen and lead actor Mika Nuojua, who portrays all of the film’s main characters. Audiences can look forward to subtle humour, moving moments, and a distinctive story rooted in Oulu’s cultural history.

A second screening will be held on the same day at 4:00 p.m. This screening is open to the public and requires a paid ticket. Tickets can be purchased in advance at ouluinmovies.fi.
Café Puolukka, located in the main lobby of the Linnanmaa Campus, will be open and serving the attendees on Saturday, 12 September, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Oulu is the European Capital of Culture 2026, and the Oulu in Movies Festival is part of the official Oulu2026 cultural programme.
Arrival at the Film Screening
The Linnanmaa campus is easily accessible by bicycle or bus. There are plenty of bicycle parking spaces in front of Entrance 2T at the main entrance. If you arrive by bus, the stop directly in front of Entrance 2T is called University. If you arrive by car, you may exceptionally park in the P1 and P2 parking areas (located on Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu next to Main Entrance 2T) for the duration of the film screening without a parking disc or parking app. Please enter through Entrance 2T and follow the corridor to the central lobby, where you may leave your coat and other outerwear if you wish (unattended coat rack).
