Project description
The project aims to create a multidisciplinary research and development platform for the studies of biological nanoparticles by widening the instruments and technologies available through Biocenter Oulu. The focus is on enhancing the services for the characterization of structural properties, behavior and dynamics of biological nanoparticles including macromolecular complexes and vesicles using state-of-the-art methods on mass spectrometry, 3D structural analysis, and in silico modeling and simulation methodologies. The R&D services provided will have applications in diagnostics, separation methods, biosensors and structural studies research on the atmosphere and environment and in leading to the development of new therapeutics. The investment project would provide new enabling technologies for new fields of research.
The instruments for sample preparation (nano liquid chromatography, ultracentrifugation and vitrification), characterization (dynamic light scattering, mass photometry and microthermophoresis) and modelling (GPU cluster) will be integrated into the Biocenter Oulu research services.
