Developing international cooperation in Sámi-language higher education

The project builds a Nordic network of Sámi-speaking teachers and tests the organization of a joint online study module for universities. The project will pilot a 15-credit study module on teaching Sámi as a second and foreign language, which is open to Sámi-speaking class teachers, subject teachers, students studying to become teachers, and students of the Sámi language and culture.

Project description

The project responds to the scarcity of teaching and material resources in the Sámi language by developing international teaching cooperation. The project will pilot a 15-credit study module on teaching Sámi as a second and foreign language, which will be implemented as online teaching, taking into account the different Sámi languages. The project will test and evaluate the strengths and challenges of joint Nordic teaching cooperation, explore the possibilities of digital learning environments, and support the professional development of teachers. The key partners in the project are the University of Lapland, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and the Sámi University of Applied Sciences.
