Maybe you still remember the kinds of questions that ran through your mind when you first started your studies. Join the Ask Me! campaign and support new students as they start their journey at the university. You don’t need to have all the answers — it’s enough that you’re willing to pause for a moment, listen, and look for the answer together with the student.

By signing up now, you’ll receive a badge – a sign that you’re approachable and ready to help.

As a campaign participant, you’ll receive:

• a ready-made list of typical questions new students might ask
• helpful tips on student services – useful for you, too!
• a unique overall patch
• and in addition to a good feeling, a joint surprise event to thank all participants

Campaign Days on Campus

Pick up your campaign badge and overall patch at the campaign day stand. Patches will be handed out as long as supplies last! We’ll also answer your questions about the campaign at the stand.

You can wear your badge whenever it suits you. After the campaign, badges will be returned to designated collection boxes on campus. You can find the collection boxes in Tellus (in front of the notice board) and at the Career Centre (during walk-in hours, Mon–Tue 11:00–14:00).

When do my studies start?

How do I find my way on campus?

The MazeMap campus application helps you locate lecture halls, meeting spots, and campus restaurants. Find instructions for downloading MazeMap to your phone

During Orientation Week, a Welcome Desk is located in the university’s main lobby. Staff there will help you find the correct location if needed.

How do I get to campus?

At the Linnanmaa campus, parking control has been suspended in the so-called cold parking areas until September 30, 2025. The suspension of parking control does NOT apply to the university’s parking areas with heating poles or to paid visitor parking spaces. More information about parking on campus

How do I get my university user account?

You will receive your user account once you have registered as attending and paid the Student Union (OYY) membership fee. After that, you can activate your account by setting a password. Find more information and activation instructions

My user account or password doesn’t work. What should I do?

How do I get a student card?

You can order a student card from the University's online store after paying the Student Union (OYY) membership fee. Find detailed instructions on the OYY website

What is Tuudo?

Tuudo is a mobile app that includes all essential student services, from course registration to your digital student card, cafeteria menus, library card, and bus timetables. It also shows information about your upcoming and ongoing courses, exams, and personal timetable.

You can download Tuudo from your device’s app store.

Which university channels should I follow?

The For Students page provides lots of useful information for your studies as well as current university news and events. The Student Newsletter delivers the most important news and upcoming events directly to your student email each month.

Also, remember to check your student email regularly so you don’t miss important updates about your studies.

How can I contact my tutor or academic advisor?

Your student tutor and tutor teacher will contact you by the start of your studies. If you don’t know who they are, you can ask your faculty’s study services for assistance.

How do I register for courses?

Course registration is done in Peppi. You can also register easily through the Tuudo mobile app.

How do I plan my studies and stay on track?

Peppi is an essential tool for students. You use it to create your Personal Study Plan (PSP), register for courses, follow your study progress, and access the study guide.

Your tutor teacher will support you in planning your studies. You can also contact your faculty’s study services if needed.

How do I use Peppi?

You’ll find clear instructions for using Peppi on the New students' page (Peppi for a new student).

What is a PSP?

PSP (Personal Study Plan) is your own plan for how your studies will progress. Your personal tutor teacher will help you create and update it.

I have previous studies – can I get credit for them?

Recognition of learning means that earlier studies or other learning may be included in your current degree. You’ll find instructions on the university’s website.

Can I study remotely?

Bachelor-level studies usually start with on-campus teaching. Some courses may be available remotely. You can check how each course is organized in Peppi or via the Tuudo app. For more information, contact your faculty’s study services.

Which minors should I choose?

You’ll find information about minors and their requirements in the study guide. You can also discuss your options with your tutor teacher or visit the university's Career Centre.

What is UniMove?

UniMove offers a wide range of sports services for students of the University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences – all at a student-friendly price. Explore the offering on UniMove’s website.

What kind of hobbies and free-time activities are available for students?

There are plenty of student and interest societies (hobby clubs) operating under the Student Union. They organize events and activities for all kinds of interests. Read more on OYY’s website or ask your student tutor for tips!

How can I get involved in student organizations?

Joining a student society is a great way to meet people, learn new skills, and make a difference. Learn more about the student societies on the OYY website and feel free to contact your own subject society or visit their guild room.

Where can I access healthcare services?

During your studies, you can use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) for health and medical concerns. You're entitled to FSHS services when you have registered as attending and are pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in Finland.

Remember to pay the healthcare fee to Kela to access these services.

Where can I get support for mental wellbeing and stress?

Study psychologists offer help with stress, motivation, and study-related challenges. You can also book study guidance if you need help planning your time or managing your daily routines.

For mental health concerns, please contact FSHS. You can also talk confidentially with the University Chaplain, who is there to support you with both everyday joys and struggles.

Where can I get support for learning difficulties? Can I get individual study arrangements, such as extra time for exams?

The University of Oulu provides support for students with different learning needs and for neurodivergent students. In certain (health-related) circumstances a student may apply for individual study arrangements.
