LocalGREENE

The LocalGREENE investment project develops existing pilot-scale equipment for the production of biohydrogen from biogas. It improves potential of biogas and makes its production more economically viable. The technology development in the project promotes low-emission, flexible and efficient decentralized energy production and increases the energy self-sufficiency potential of North Ostrobothnia.

Project description

Innovation, research, and development are required in order to reach carbon neutrality and to introduce new sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. The LocalGREENE investment project develops existing pilot-scale equipment for the production of biohydrogen. Refining biogas into biohydrogen expands the utilization potential of biogas and makes biogas production even more economically viable. The technology development work carried out in the project promotes low-emission, flexible and efficient decentralized energy production and increases the energy self-sufficiency potential of North Ostrobothnia. A hydrogen separation unit will be added to the existing hydrogen production equipment. In addition, the project is developing a more cost- and energy-efficient reactor solution, the utilization potential of which extends more extensively to other applications requiring heating.

The LocalGREENE investment project strengthens the creation of new product development and business solutions for energy production. With the development of new, more efficient technologies that save nature, it is possible to improve the well-being of people and the environment. The target groups of the project are producers and processors of biogas and hydrogen, companies developing process and energy production technologies, energy companies and companies in the measurement and automation sector. The aim of the project is to support research and development in the region's universities and educational institutions involved in the project and to promote the growth of companies' R&D investments and the emergence of new technologies and services.
