Research group description

The goal of the research group is to assess the impacts of digital media on people's health and well-being​ and health promotion.

Target groups and outcomes​:

  • Main target groups: adolescents, young adults (e.g. students), parents, professionals​

  • Excessive use of digital gaming, Internet and social media​

  • Physical, mental, psychological, social health and well-being​

Objectives:​

  • Identify the links between excessive digital media use and well-being at the individual and population level

  • To develop and evaluate the effects of interventions on health among excessive digital media users​

  • Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of guidance and support interventions on health and well-being among excessive digital media users

  • Describe the experiences of excessive digital media users about the use digital media use and importance for well-being 

Our group's activities also aim to:

  • Disseminate evidence based research and information to young people/adults, families, professionals and decision-makers for example through education 

  • Promote people's health and well-being based on research evidence in national and international level

  • Develop preventive and effective services in cooperation with different actors

We use various research methods in our research group (e.g. systematic reviews with meta-analysis/meta-aggregation​, cross-sectional and cohort studies​, register studies​, RCT, quasi-experimental studies​, qualitative studies with content analysis​, instrument development and testing).​
