Alejandro Reig

I am an anthropologist who works on socio-environmental issues from the perspectives of Social Anthropology, Political Ecology and the Anthropology of Health, both in Lowland South America and Europe. I seek to address through an ethnographic and comparative perspective the contemporary social construction of the environment, as it emerges in specific local scenarios of political, socio-economic and environmental friction. I advocate a perspective that bridges the gap between research and outreach practices, working to facilitate communication between different social and professional actors, technical and cultural discourses and practices. My work recurrently taps into the cross-fertilisation of the insights of academic research, teaching, consultancy and scientific dissemination, with attention to developments in communications and design, dialogues between science, the humanities and arts, and global and local cultures.

As a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Oulu, my ongoing research deals with transformations in agricultural knowledge and practices in Mallorca, Spain, part of RURALEX, a three-year research project studying the cumulative crisis of environmental expertise across Europe’s rural areas.
