My research at the Learning and Educational Technology (LET) research lab explores the role of motivation in collaborative learning. My research is driven by a question: How does learners' understanding of motivation influence their ability to regulate learning? Although motivation and motivation regulation have been studied extensively, considerably less attention has been paid to learners' understanding of motivation itself. I conceptualize metacognitive knowledge of motivation (MCKM) as learners' relatively stable knowledge base about what motivation is, what influences it, and how it can be regulated. In my PhD research, I investigate how this knowledge shapes learners' ability to recognize motivational challenges and regulate motivation during collaborative learning
