Giang Thi Tuyet Nguyen

In 2018, I started my postdoctoral research position in the group of Professor Petri Kursula at the University of Oulu. My research focuses on investigating the molecular mechanism of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease via structure and function of Ganglioside-induced differentiation-associated protein 1 (GDAP1) and screening/designing potential structure-based regulators.

During my PhD (2010-2014) under the supervision of Professor Clemens Steegborn in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Bayreuth, Germany, I researched on Sirtuins, a conserved family of protein deacylaces important for regulation of metabolism, longevity and aged-related diseases. The results of my PhD research provided novel mechanisms and target conformation for Sirtuin inhibition and revealed detailed structural information for aiding the development of improved Sirtuin target drugs. After my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Germany and USA also in the field of Biochemistry and Structural Biology.

I have extensive experience working in international institutes including in South Korea, UK, Germany, USA, Denmark and Finland starting from my Master degree until now.
