Hugo is a PhD student in the group (Inorganic Chemistry) of Associate professor Daniela Bezuidenhout. His work focuses on the activation of small synthetically relevant molecules with enthalpically strong bonds by complexes of first row transition metals. The complexes comprise new carbene ligands called MICs (MesoIonic Carbenes) that can display non-innocent behaviour.
The finality of this project (3dMAmm) is exploiting the newly discovered activation processes to design mediated and catalysed chemical transformations.
