Mahmoud Mohamed
PhD
Postdoctoral researcher
I received my PhD in Economics and Business Administration from Oulu Business School at the University of Oulu, in 2025. My research sits at the intersection of entrepreneurship, platform ecosystems, and digital health, and examines how digital ventures enter and participate in regulated healthcare ecosystems with particular attention to complementarity, coopetition, and the emergence of multiplatform ecosystems.
I'm currently working on my postdoctoral research agenda, which shifts the focus from ecosystem entry to post-entry venture development: how internal capabilities and inter-organisational relationships shape the transition from collaboration and testing to sustained adoption and commercial growth. Alongside this, I coach and mentor six early-stage digital health venture teams through the OYSTER incubator, and I teach entrepreneurship and innovation at bachelor's and master's level at Oulu Business School.
My doctoral research was conducted within StrokeData, a Business Finland-funded, multidisciplinary digital-health consortium involving companies, research institutions and university hospitals. That work looked at how digital platform firms enter healthcare markets and collaborate and compete with incumbent organisations, focusing on platform integration, ecosystem governance, stakeholder relationships and data sharing.
