Matti Niemelä

Matti Niemelä

I currently work as a director of the Chemistry degree programme and as a university lecturer in the Sustainable Chemistry Research unit. In my doctoral research, I developed methods to monitor changes in very low levels of arsenic, platinum and rhodium in the environment. My research focuses particularly on sample pretreatment and atomic spectrometric methods of analysis, as well as the use of statistical methods in analytical chemistry research. In addition, I have been involved in developing opportunities for continuing professional learning for university-level chemistry teachers.

Research interests

  • Inorganic analytical chemistry
  • Novel analytical methods for industrial and environmental research and their applications
