Merja Pyykkönen

In my doctoral thesis I study the popularly known violent phenomenon of 'knife fighters' (puukkojunkkarit in Finnish) from 19th century South Ostrobothnia, Finland. My research from year 1809 to 1889 covers violent acts such as homicides and non-lethal assaults with a specific focus on women as offenders and victims. The study also covers female and male criminal careers.
