Seila Pihanurmi
MA
University teacher
I work as a University Teacher and Project Researcher in the Research Unit of Logopedics. In addition, I am pursuing doctoral studies.
My responsibilities as a University Teacher include both teaching and student supervision. As a researcher, I am involved in the Listening for their Future project, which examines the relationships between listening, cognition, spoken language, literacy, and psychosocial wellbeing in deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) adolescents.
My doctoral research focuses on the oral narrative skills of Finnish DHH children who use spoken language as their primary mode of communication. To date, there is relatively little research available on the subject. A better understanding of narrative abilities in DHH children can support the more targeted allocation of assessment and rehabilitation resources to those linguistic domains in which difficulties are most evident.
I am a licensed Speech and Language Therapist and have several years of clinical experience in the assessment and rehabilitation of children and adolescents with communication disorders.
