Communication with plants? : Measurement of the bioelectric potential of plants

Time: 13:15 – 14:00

The plants have the capability of detecting various environmental changes and to adapt themselves to these changes. If we can talk with plants, it means, if we can detect some information related to this capability from plants, we can gain a deeper understanding of plants. In this lecture, I will introduce the technology of the bioelectric potential measurement of plants as a promising method for communicating with plants.

Development of the agriculture support system using the bioelectric potential of plants and fruits

Time: 14:15 – 15:00

Several papers reported that the bioelectric potential response of plants changes corresponding to plant physiological activities, especially the photosynthetic activity. We focused on the measurements of bioelectric potential responses of plants and fruits as a low-cost and a high sensitive technique for real-time evaluation of the plant physiological activities. In addition, we develop a sensing device for ethylene gas, which is a kind of plant growth hormones related to ripening of fruits. In this lecture, I will introduce our latest research for developing an agriculture support system, which combine the plant bioelectrical potential and the FET gas sensor response.
