Corrosion and its calculation in austenitic stainless steels

The corrosion in stainless steels is a long-term problem. The austenitic stainless steels when exposed to higher temperatures, they tend to lose corrosion resistance and thus leading to potential failure of the material in the service conditions. This can be prevented by estimating the corrosion behavior at different temperatures and exposure times. This estimation can be done using advanced computer simulations based on high-quality databases consisting of thermodynamic and kinetic data related to the reactions that cause corrosion. The same has been done successfully in this work and the resulted calculations can now be used to identify the potential corrosion problems and avoid them. These can also be used to design new corrosion resistant stainless steels.
