Study of cosmic-ray variability using ground-based and space-borne data

Cosmic rays are charged particles accelerated in astrophysical sources and on the Sun (these particles are known as solar energetic particles). The study of cosmic rays gives us the opportunity to better understand solar and stellar physics, evaluate properties of the interstellar and interplanetary medium. Their knowledge is critically important for planning missions to Moon and Mars since cosmic rays and solar energetic particles are the main danger for both manned and unmanned missions.

In my work, I combined data from a ground-based network of neutron monitors and two recent space-borne experiments to better understand the effects of solar modulation of cosmic rays and to evaluate the integral spectra of solar energetic particles during the most powerful solar eruptive events for the last 70 years.
