Welcome to the Oulu Botanical Garden!

The Botanical Garden of the University of Oulu is one of the northernmost scientific gardens in the world.

Botanical Garden collection of plants is maintained for teaching and research purposes and it is open to the public.

Collections include more than 4,000 different plant species and provide an overview of global vegetation diversity. Botanical Garden is also a testing and experimental area for many new and rare plants.

The landmark of the Oulu Botanical Garden are the pyramid-shaped greenhouses Romeo and Julia where about 1,200 exotic plant species are presented. Science Garden of the University of Oulu is also located here.

The Botanical Garden can be found in the northern corner of the Linnanmaa campus area, near lake Kuivasjärvi. Street address is Kaitoväylä 5.

Routes and timetables for buses coming to Linnanmaa can be found from the City of Oulu public transport website.

From the motorway (E4) from ramp no. 12 direction Teknologiakylä (Technology Village) and Yliopisto (University). See map.

Greenhouses:
Due to the coronavirus situation, the greenhouses can only be visited by prior arrangement Tue - Fri from 10 am to 3 pm.

Groups of up to 10 people can book a visit via the website (or by phone 0294 481580).

If you also want a guided tour, the visit is subject to a fee.

The University of Oulu Science Garden will open in autumn 2020.

A science exhibition will be built in the lobby of the Botanical Garden, where research projects of the University of Oulu from different focus areas will be presented. You can also visit the virtual showroom, which presents low-carbon companies from the Northern Ostrobothnia region. The multi-purpose space Sara is an excellent place for holding workshops, hackathons and events that require group work. Meeting room Vanamo can be booked for smaller meetings.
Music in Botanical
A unique concert series in the botanical garden. Pyramid greenhouses serve as concert halls. The botanical garden offers a low threshold to come and enjoy high quality music. Performed by top international artists.
