Jena Derakhshani Hamadani

Jena Derakhshani Hamadani is a paediatrician with a PhD in child development from the Institute of Child Health under University College London.

She is an international emeritus scientist at the Maternal and Child Health Division of icddr,b.

She has been a pioneer in research in early childhood development (ECD) in Bangladesh, with main focus on psychosocial stimulation and its effects on child development. She has looked at the effects of food and different micronutrient supplementations both at pre and post-natal periods, effects of maternal morbidities like maternal depression and anaemia and effects of environmental toxicants like arsenic, cadmium and manganese on children’s development. Presently, she is taking steps in scaling-up ECD in the country.

She is widely published and has received several grants and awards.
