Priority for admission will be given to students enrolled in the Geography Doctoral Degree Programme and the Technology and Natural Sciences Doctoral Programme at the University of Oulu Graduate School. Subject to availability, the course is open to other students as well. The maximum number of course participants is 20 students. Within these limits, selection will be based on the order of registration.
After the registration period has closed, we will inform all registered participants via Peppi system, whether their registration has been accepted (5th November at the latest).
Education description
The course will be held on-site at the University of Oulu from 24 to 26 November 2025.
The primary aim of this course is to develop students' skills in constructing a complete and efficient workflow for a physical geography data project ─ from utilizing open datasets to performing statistical modelling. Throughout the course, participants will engage with a range of statistical and spatial analysis techniques and will apply these methods using both example datasets and, if applicable, their own research material. The students will be provided with a wide package of prepared R scripts to be further developed for their own data projects.
