Information about the programme and other practical matters
- The symposium dinner will take place on Friday, 13 November at restaurant Rauhala. The address is Mannenkatu 4. The dinner menu is available here.
- An optional evening programme will be organized on Thursday, 12 November on the Linnanmaa campus. More information about the evening programme will be provided later.
- The symposium programme will be published at the end of September.
The programme includes three keynote presentations:
- Teknologia kielenoppimisvuorovaikutuksen resurssina, toimijana ja ympäristönä (Teppo Jakonen, University of Turku)
- Tourism Communication and Capitals of Culture: Perspectives from Applied Linguistics (Heike Ortner, University of Innsbruck)
- Monikielinen työyhteisö yksikielisyyspaineen alla – näkökulmia vuorovaikutukseen, kielenomaksumiseen ja teknologian rooliin (Maria Frick, University of Oulu)
The keynote speakers are Docent Maria Frick from the University of Oulu, Docent Teppo Jakonen from the University of Turku, and Associate Professor Heike Ortner from the University of Innsbruck.
Registration
- Registration fees: 80 EUR for members of AFinLA and 120 EUR for non-members. The student fee 50 EUR applies to degree students and doctoral researchers.
- The registration fee includes attendance in the academic programme and refreshments as marked in the programme. Tickets for the symposium dinner are sold separately, ticket 60 EUR.

Methods of payment
The registration fees are paid upon registration.
1) Credit card payment (Visa, MasterCard) *
2) Online bank payment (for Finnish/Scandinavian banks only) *
3) Mobile payment (MobilePay/Google Pay/Apple Pay/Siirto) *
4) PDF invoice (payment with bank transfer).
A PDF invoice will be sent to your e-mail after you have submitted your registration. Terms of payment: 14 days net.
5) E-invoice (Verkkolasku, for Finnish organisations only).
An e-invoice will be sent to the given e-invoicing address. Terms of payment: 14 days net.
If you choose the invoicing option, kindly ensure that the invoicing address and reference you have entered are correct and comply with your organisation's guidelines.
* Paytrail Plc (VAT FI21228397) acts as a collecting payment service provider in cooperation with Finnish banks and credit institutions. Paytrail Plc is authorized payment institution. Paytrail Plc appears as the payee on the bank statement or card invoice and forwards the payment to the event organiser. In case of reclamations, please contact the event organiser.
All payments must be made in euros (EUR).
Cancellation policy
Cancellation of registration must be made in writing (email) to afinla2026@oulu.fi. For cancellations received by 26 October 2026, 50% of the registration fee will be refunded. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after this deadline.
In the event that the meeting is cancelled by the Organisers of the event, or cannot take place for any reason outside the control of the Organisers, the registration fee shall be refunded in full. The liability of the Organisers of the event shall be limited to that refund.
Change of the participant
At any time after registration, in case you will be unable to attend the symposium for any reason, you may send a colleague in your place at no additional cost. In such a case, please contact afinla2026@oulu.fi as soon as possible.
Insurance
Please note that the symposium participants are not covered by any insurance (travel, medical, accident or liability) taken by the Organisers of the event. The Organisers of the event cannot accept liability for any loss or damage suffered by any participant or accompanying person or another person during travel to and from the meeting or during the meeting. Participants are advised to consider purchasing their own travel insurance and to extend their personal policy to cover personal possessions.
