Applications for the summer school in Łódź are open until 29.3.2026 for all Master’s and Bachelor’s students in the University of Oulu.
Course theme
Global migration shapes societies, cities, and regions across Europe and beyond. From climate‑induced displacement and labour mobility to urban integration and policy responses, migration affects demographic structures, public services, social cohesion, and economic opportunities. This course invites students to analyse the drivers and impacts of migration, focusing on how regions and cities can respond in inclusive and sustainable ways. Students will work in international teams to develop practical, policy‑oriented proposals that address migration‑related challenges in diverse local contexts.
Who can apply
The course is open to advanced Bachelor’s and Master’s students enrolled at the University of Oulu. Applicants should:
- Have a strong interest in migration, regional development, and societal change.
- Be able to work in English (proficiency at B2 level or equivalent).
- Be committed to participating in all course activities (online and in‑person).
Format and dates
The summer course consists of three integrated phases combining local, online, and on‑site elements:
- Local Workshops (24–28 August 2026) – preparatory work and regional case discussions at home universities.
- Online Module (31 August – 4 September 2026) – expert lectures and interactive workshops on migration drivers and consequences.
- On‑Site Module in Łódź, Poland (7–11 September 2026) – group problem‑solving, field visits, and final presentations on migration strategies.
ECTS and participation
Students may be eligible to receive 5-6 ECTS credits for successful completion of the summer course, subject to the approval of the student’s home faculty at the University of Oulu. Active participation in all phases of the course is required.
Funding and travel
The course runs under the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). Selected students can apply for Erasmus+ support from the University of Oulu to cover travel and accommodation costs. Details about funding opportunities will be made available to participants upon selection.
