Are you interested in technology, crafts, or design? Join a workshop where creativity, electronics and textiles come together! In these weekly changing workshops, you can design and create your own smart textile – for example a light-responsive item, a colour-changing organza flower or other interactive textile pieces.
What will be done in the workshop?
- Explore different types of smart textiles
- Learn to use a variety of materials and tools
- Design and complete your own small smart textile project
Who is this workshop for?
You don’t need to be a coder or a sewing expert – curiosity and willingness to try something new are all you need! The workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in combining technology with craft.
Materials and supplies
All necessary materials will be provided on site. You’re also welcome to bring your own garment or fabric if you would like to add smart features to it.

This workshop series is part of the University of Oulu's Campus as a Stage 2026 culture program. In 2026, the University of Oulu will organize a year-long Campus as a Stage event series, which aims to showcase the broad cultural expertise of our university community and bring culture to everyday life on our campuses and to a wider audience. The series includes cultural lunches, cultural lectures, After Work events, various exhibitions and community art works, and art tours of the university's art collections.
