Communication and conversations can be researched, analyzed and measured: and we can learn to be better at it!
In her lecture, Elizabeth Stokoe shows how the science of communication can help us understand the art of communication – in other words, help identify, describe, and share what expert and experienced professionals are doing that works.
Small words have power. Understanding the specific practices that constitute good communication is crucial, since successful organizations are built, developed, and strengthened by successful interactions.
Elizabeth Stokoe is Academic Director of Impact at The London School of Economics and Political Science where she is a professor in the Department of Psychological and Behavioral Science. Elizabeth’s research is in conversation analysis, focused on understanding how social interaction works in settings from first dates to medicine and healthcare; from mediation to police crisis negotiation and emergency service calls, and from sales encounters to interaction in “SaaS” (Software as a Service) platforms and conversational user interfaces.
