The paper will introduce some of the key ideas behind a new book that will be published by Cambridge University Press early next year. Berger will talk about how a range of different theoretical developments in the theory of history have impacted on a wide variety of historical writings that have moved to a more self-reflective way of writing history in relation to identitarian concerns. Examples will be discussed in relation to nation, class, ethnicity and gender.
