Together Again: VISE autumn seminar in August 2021

Dear VISE research groups,

We are organizing a VISE afternoon seminar and a get-together, for both VISE researchers and their collaborators/potential collaborators. By this, we hope to inform about the research done in VISE, encourage getting to know each other, and to provide opportunities for researchers of all stages to present their research ideas. The seminar will take place on 26th of August 2021, from 1 pm to 5 pm. It will consist of two stages: a joint panel discussion in the first half of the seminar, and conjunctive panel sessions in the second half. After this, we will have a reception with food and drinks, where all the participants of the seminar are welcomed. The event is planned to take place in physical presence at the University of Oulu.

For the panel sessions, we call for short, max. 300-word abstracts. The presentations can be about conducted research, very general overviews of the research, or preliminary ideas and thoughts about what the research is probably going to be. The presentations can be in English or in Finnish (PP-slides in English). We highly encourage especially doctoral researchers and new members of VISE to present their research (or research ideas). The submission for papers will open 16.06.2021 and close 13.08.2021. The submissions are asked to be sent to iina.tolonen@oulu.fi.

Supervisors of doctoral theses and team leaders are encouraged to inform their doctoral students and new members of their teams to send an abstract to the seminar. The aim here is to make VISE more inclusive for all, to present what is done in VISE to the (potential) collaborators, and to provide a space for doctoral and new researchers in VISE to present their work and to get to know their colleagues.

Note, the principles of safe space will apply for the seminar. That is, the participants and chairs are required to act inclusively and to be mindful of the other participants and their research ideas.

The schedule of the seminar is the following:

13.00 Opening words (Minna-Kerttu Kekki as the chair of the organization team)
13.05 Presentation of VISE successes and thanks to particular VISE members (prof. Katariina Holma)
13.20--14.00 Joint panel discussion about the research in VISE, one participant from each VISE research team (preferably the group leader)
14.00--14.30 General discussion including comments, questions, and ideas from the audience
14.30--15.00 Coffee break
15.00--17.00 Conjunctive panel sessions: presentation of the research done in VISE, especially by doctoral researchers and new researchers
17.00 Reception with food and drinks

Registering to the seminar and reception will take place between 01.08.-13.08.2021.
