What kind of facilities will University of Oulu students have for independent study in Oulu city centre in the future? Now you can take a first look at the spaces opening in October 2026 as part of Researchers’ Night. The learning and meeting hub Ydin is located at Isokatu 32, in the same building as the Hesburger on Saaristonkatu.

Open day on Friday 25 September 2026, 14.00–21.00

Ydin opens its doors to all city residents and friends of the university. Come and explore a modern meeting place for studying, working, connecting and enjoying time together.

We will be presenting Ydin’s upper floor, which will later be open only to University of Oulu students and staff.

Drop in for a moment or stay longer. Explore the facilities and experience the atmosphere of the new learning environment.

Ydin’s street-level space will be completed for public events. During opening hours, anyone can drop into the lounge-like facilities — you could even arrange to meet someone there. Discussions and lectures open to all will be held especially on weekday evenings from the last week of October onwards.

Open day programme:

Light refreshments for the first 150 visitors.

Ask a researcher points from 16.00 to 20.00

  • How has the Ydin space been designed, and what can you do there? What questions are currently topical in the student movement? Student activists will be present from 14.00 to 16.30.
