1.4 million euros to halt biodiversity loss
The funding awarded to a research team led by Professor Anu Eskelinen at the University of Oulu. The project focuses on identifying solutions to some of the most pressing questions about the future of nature.
The funding will enable investigations into how climate change and other global environmental changes affect plant biodiversity. The project, Mechanisms of Plant Biodiversity Change, examines why plant species respond differently to environmental shifts and how biodiversity can be more effectively protected and restored. The results will help predict changes in nature and identify practical ways to halt biodiversity loss, read more on the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation’s website.
Eskelinen engages in international collaboration, for example, through the global Nutrient Network research collaboration network (NutNet). Earlier, Eskelinen’s group has studied, for example, the link between decreasing plant diversity and increased eutrophication, competition for light, and the loss of herbivory, read more.
