The rector leads the university's operations and is responsible for ensuring that the university's duties are carried out economically, effectively and efficiently, as well as for implementing and developing the university's strategy. The duties of the rector are defined in the Finnish Universities Act.

The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree and possess the competence, expertise and proven leadership skills required for the position. Excellent command of Finnish and English languages is required.

The Board of Directors will decide at the end of September which candidates will be invited for interview. In addition to interviews and a professional assessment process, the recruitment procedure includes an event for the leading candidates with members of the University community in October.

The board will make its final selection at the end of November. The new rector will take up the position on 1 January 2027, or as otherwise agreed.

University staff and students will have an opportunity to meet the candidates at an event held in Agora on 16 October from 13:30 to 14:45.
