AVD service brings university programs home to you
Did you know that the AVD service (Azure Virtual Desktop) run by ICT Services has many specialized software and discipline-specific software for students to use? You can use them not only on the university workstations and laptops, but also on your own devices on campus and at home. Their use is free for you, so this benefit is worth taking advantage of!
You can access the AVD service either by simply using a web browser or by installing a client on your computer.
When you are logged in, press Start > All to see all the programs. You can also check out AVD's program selection in the table at https://ict.oulu.fi/16928/?page&lang=en#software.
AVD remote desktop connection with browser
- Open the www browser (MS Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari)
- Go to address: https://windows365.microsoft.com/ent#
- Sign in the service with your M365 username (account@student.oulu.fi, account@univ.yo.oulu.fi, account@students.oamk.fi or account@oamk.fi). The service will open without a separate login if you are already signed up to the university’s M365 service.
- Double-click Student Desktop or Staff Desktop. When you open the desktop for the first time, it may take a little longer to load than next time.
- Log out at the end of the session, because simply closing the browser window is not enough to free up the desktop for use by others.
