Call for Master's thesis scholarships 2025-2026 sponsored by ITEE Faculty

Degree Programme in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is built on world-class research in various fields of information technology including machine vision, biomedical engineering, intelligent information analysis, information security and ubiquitous
Internet. The research is carried out in three units: Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Group (BISG), Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS), and Center for Ubiquitous Computing (UBICOMP).
The ITEE Faculty offers twelve (12) scholarships of 3000 € for Master’s thesis works starting during the academic year 2025-26. The scholarships are aimed for M.Sc. students of the University of Oulu enrolled in either the Degree Programme of Computer Science and Engineering (includes 3+2 year DICE-CSE, CSE-International Master’s Programme, and CSE Business Analytics Master’s Programme) or Master’s Programme in Biomedical Engineering. The call is opened for students both in the Finnish and International 2-year degree programmes.
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, the applicant must satisfy the following conditions:
1. The applicant has obtained at least 60 credit points during the academic year 2024-2025 (by 31.7.2025).
2. The applicant has submitted the mandatory training report for the 521027S Advanced practical training, 5 ECTS cr course for evaluation before this call’s deadline.
3. The applicant has not previously received any financial support for the Master’s thesis work, nor should the candidate have a concurrent employment relationship during the scholarship term, i.e. for a period of 6 months starting from the date the scholarship is awarded (i.e. paid), to the recipient, as the scholarship is mean to support full-time work on the Master’s Thesis.
The Faculty of ITEE is committed to offering inspiring Master’s thesis topic and high-quality supervision to the scholarship awardees as well as facilities for conducting the research. For CSE program students: BISG, CMVS and UBICOMP are committed to offering an inspiring Master’s thesis topic and high-quality supervision to the scholarship awardees as well as facilities for conducting the research.
For BME program students: Related research is carried out in several research units of ITEE including Biomimetics and Intelligent systems, Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis, Center for Ubiquitous Computing, Circuits and Systems, CWC-networks and Systems, Empirical software engineering in software, systems and services, Human computer interaction and human-centered development, Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and measurement techniques.
The applicant should have a preliminary thesis topic and commitment from the supervisor before applying. Eligible supervisors are listed here.

1. Curriculum Vitae;
2. Latest transcript of records;
3. Motivation letter describing briefly your research interests and the preliminary thesis topic;
4. Copy of email from the supervisor indicating the topic and commitment to supervise the thesis.
The subject field of the email must be Application for Master's thesis scholarship 2025 [familyname_first name].
Attachments must be in a pdf format and the following naming convention must be used: Motivation_familyname_firstname, CV_familyname_firstname, Tran script_familyname_firstname, Commitment_ familyname_firstname.
Note: The decisions will be made in early October, soon after the call’s deadline. The scholarship is paid after the applicant’s Master’s thesis topic application has been duly processed and approved in LATURI, according to the current guidelines. Payment will be processed between the decision date and no later than January 15, 2026. Exceptions to this deadline may apply, at the research unit’s own discretion. The Faculty and/or each research unit reserves the right to define the final number of scholarships awarded to each Degree Programme, regardless of the number of applications submitted, according to the yearly available budget, and other foreseen and/or unforeseen circumstances, as applicable.
