Changes to direct SSH connections from internet

N.B. This notice will apply to you if you operate from home the servers mentioned below for example through Putty or WinSCP programmes.

ICT Services of University of Oulu has decided to block all direct SSH connections from Internet to following servers:

bugi2.oulu.fi, cse-cn0003.oulu.fi, cse-cn0004.oulu.fi, cse-cn0005.oulu.fi, cse-cn0006.oulu.fi, cse-cn0007.oulu.fi, cse-cn0011.oulu.fi, cwc-cn001.oulu.fi, cwc-cn104.oulu.fi, el-cn0001.oulu.fi, el-cn0002.oulu.fi, fso-1.oulu.fi, itees2.oulu.fi, itees3.oulu.fi, maxwell.oulu.fi, oh8ta.oulu.fi, onnikka.oulu.fi,otit3.oulu.fi, otitkakspistenolla.oulu.fi, otit-ripcentos.oulu.fi, otitsun.oulu.fi, otitsunii.oulu.fi, palkki.oulu.fi, sik3.oulu.fi, sik-gw.oulu.fi, sik-gw1.oulu.fi, sik-ns1.oulu.fi, sik-web.oulu.fi, sik-web2.oulu.fi, st-cn0001.oulu.fi, st-cn0002.oulu.fi, ukko.oulu.fi ja volta.oulu.fi.

The changes come into force on 15 September, 2021.

Now as in the future, you can access the before-mentioned servers by using VPN connection.

This change is made mainly because of previous and upcoming phishing attacks, but it is also a part of the plan to move towards controlled remote access utilizing multi-factor authentication (MFA).

The SSH services of the servers koivu.oulu.fi, paju.oulu.fi and tuomi.oulu.fi maintained by ICT Services have already earlier been blocked from Internet.
