Curriculum Reform at the University of Oulu – New Three-Year Cycle Starting in Autumn 2027
The goal is to improve planning, predictability, and quality of teaching. For students, this brings more clarity and helps in planning studies, exchange periods, and internships more effectively.
The three-year curriculum will apply to:
- Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes (including Medicine and Dentistry)
- Standalone Master's and Bachelor's programmes
- Doctoral training
- Minor subjects and other study modules
- Language and communication studies
- Courses for exchange students
The following will continue with a one-year curriculum:
- Open University
- Cross-institutional studies
- UNIC European University network
- Continuing education
- Summer studies
- Optional doctoral studies
The first three-year curriculum will cover 2027–2030 and will take effect on 1 August 2027. Although the curriculum is planned for three years, course descriptions and implementations will continue to be updated annually.
Students will be provided with a transition period when the new curriculum is introduced. Students can complete their degrees according to the curriculum they started with (until the end of the transition period) or opt to follow the new curriculumn.
