Cyber security studies recognised for educational development
With the rise of digitalisation, cyber security has become a major societal challenge. Education in cyber security equips students with highly valued professional expertise, combining a strong theoretical foundation with practical skills. Graduates from the cyber security specialization in the Master's programme in Computer Science and Engineering meet the growing societal demand for cyber security professionals. Cyber security is also a popular minor subject, and it is included in the university’s continuous learning offering.
Cyber security research at the University of Oulu has been ongoing for decades, providing a solid basis for research-driven and demand-oriented development of cyber security education within the Computer Science and Engineering degree programme.
“The staff responsible for the cyber security specialisation at the University of Oulu have shown great commitment to developing education that offers a growing number of students a diverse learning experience. This programme uniquely combines strong theoretical expertise, excellent technical skills, and close connections with working life,” said Vice Rector for Education Mirja Illikainen during the event.
The award was received by Professor Kimmo Halunen, Professor Juha Röning, University Lecturer Satu Tamminen, University Teacher Teemu Tokola, and Doctoral Researcher Niklas Saari. Nominations for the award were collected via the education management team.
