Discover Finnish Life Beyond Campus – Join the Kummi Family Programme!

Are you a new international degree student at the University of Oulu looking to experience Finland beyond lectures, assignments, and student housing? The Kummi Family Programme offers a unique opportunity to connect with local families, learn about Finnish culture, and build meaningful friendships during your studies.
First meeting

As a participant, you will be matched with a local family in the Oulu region for one academic year. Together, you can decide how to spend your time. Activities might include cooking meals together, going berry picking, visiting a summer cottage, enjoying a movie night, attending a hockey game, or simply sharing conversations about life in Finland and your home country.

The programme runs from September to May and is open to new international degree students at the University of Oulu.

The application period for the 2026–2027 academic year is now open and will continue until 6 September 2026. Participants are expected to be interested in intercultural exchange and willing to commit to meeting their Kummi Family during the academic year.

Whether you want to learn more about Finnish traditions, improve your language skills, expand your social network, the Kummi Family Programme can be a rewarding part of your student journey in Oulu.

Interested? Apply now and take the opportunity to experience Finland through local eyes while sharing your own culture with others.
