Rethinking the Future for Sustainable Tourism and Resilient Communities in Southern Asia

The tourism industry has returned to pre-COVID-19 pandemic level in many parts of the world, including southern Asia. In India, for example, the sector employs about 80 million people.

“While the industry is growing fast, there is an urgent need to rethink the future of tourism in a carbon neutral world and how tourism could contribute to local employment and development also in the future”, says Saarinen.

BIMTECH is specialized on sustainability management studies and education – a natural collaboration partnership

BIMTECH is located in Greater Noida, India, and the institute is specialized on sustainability management studies and education, which makes the institute a very good collaboration partner for FRONT research programme. During his visit, Professor Saarinen was hosted by Professor Rahul Singh.

Besides a keynote speech, the visit included a collaborative research planning meeting on sustainable development and resilience with Professor Reeti Kulshrestha, initiated by visioning discussions with Professor Prabina Rajib, Director of the Institute. The planned research will focus on resilience building and sustainable livelihoods in the northern parts of India.
